The Last Time I Was Me Cathy Lamb 9780758266682 Books

I loved this book! It's the first book I've read by this author, but now I want to read more of her books. The main character Jeanne Stewart in this book is definitely in need of some anger management, and the book begins with her having a nervous breakdown in the middle of doing a presentation in front of 8oo something people at an Advertising Convention. Part of what led to her breakdown is finding out her boyfriend who she thought was faithful to her has been cheating on her for months. In her rage, I'd say she handles this problem rather creatively injuring him in a way that lands her in trouble with the law. This book is touching, laugh out funny in some parts, and a great read.I highly recommend it. I can't wait to read more of Cathy's books!

The Last Time I Was Me Cathy Lamb 9780758266682 Books Reviews

Only certain authors write books that merit multiple readings. Cathy Lamb falls into that category; I have read every book of hers at least twice and always discover new nuggets. The Last Time I Was Me is no exception. Upon second reading, I had the eerie feeling that Cathy Lamb wrote about me.

The story is told by Jeanne Stewart, a high-powered advertising executive in Chicago. During a presentation to a large group of advertisers, she decides to have a nervous breakdown. How I laughed when she flies off the rails, flinging salty insults at her contemporaries and various products she represents! Having spent years of eighteen-hour days toiling in a high technology company, I envied Jeanne. I could rant only to my PC.

Jeanne also has an unfaithful boyfriend, who is suing her for assaulting part of his anatomy. Like I wished I had done, she packs her car and heads toward the Pacific Ocean. As is true with me, Jeanne's prized possession is her massive collection of eclectic shoes, not a pair of which she leaves behind.

Outside Portland, she stops in The Opera Man's Cafe, is directed to a B & B in Weltana, Oregon, and her real journey begins. Jeanne meets a cast of characters that Cathy Lamb brilliantly creates. What humorous, quirky and kind people they are! I knew them so well by the end of the book that I would have recognized them if they had arrived at my house.

This book resonated with me on so many levels. Jeanne, my alter ego, is immensely funny, despite her misfortunes. The dialogue is masterful. Listening to Jeanne is like listening to a best friend (or since I *am* Jeanne, talking to myself.) This is the story of unlikely friendships formed in unlikely places. Most of all, this is the story of a young woman who works hard to attain happiness and contentment. I loved every word.
I enjoyed this book very much. As I read about Jeanne's "breakdown," we learn what a strong, funny, survivor she is. In some earlier books (Julia's Chocolate, Such a Pretty Face) it is as if we have to wat for them to figure out what strong survivors they really are. Reading what Jeanne goes through to come back to herself was usually funny, sometimes heart wrenching but always well written. This is one of my favorite,if not the favorite, of Cathy Lamb's books.
I really like the way Lamb writes her stories , her characters are so relatable! I have to admit I was a little perplexed by the ending and the secret that was never revealed to Jay..
Jeanne is a scorned woman who found a clever way to get back at her then boyfriend and had a nervous breakdown... she landed in her brother’s town and made some fast quirky friends at her assigned anger management class! As the story goes she meets her Prince Charming and sparks fly!
This book has so much humor and cute romance! I loved the story!
I always know when I pick up a Cathy Lamb book, that it will be a great time, and each character will become my best friend! Slipping into her books is like slipping into a warm bath--comforting and stress dissolving. The Last Time I Was Me was no exception. Jeanne is an angry woman, having just exacted well-deserved revenge on her cheating boyfriend (you will love her pet name for him!). She is facing a court case where her ex is suing her for everything she has. She has also just lost her job having snapped having given a memorable but unwelcome speech about her advertising profession. At her brother’s urging she drives toward where he lives due to a possible job offer. Along the way, she stops in a town and discovers she loves it, and decides to stay there. She also begins anger management classes with quite a colorful cast of characters. And of course, there is a love story involved, as well as an impossible situation that Jeanne must extricate herself from. You will love to follow along with Jeanne’s adventures and the hilarious dialogue will keep you in stitches!
